What if my child is tardy?

We encourage promptness since tardies affect everyone and disrupt classroom time. If you know you will be late for school, please call ahead to the main office. Late students must report to the office and sign in as late. Afterward, we will issue the student a "Tardy Slip" before he/she goes to class.

What should I do if my child is absent?

When at all possible, please notify us when your child is absent by calling the student absence line at 623-907-5263. Absent students need to return with a note explaining the reason for being gone. An absence note is must! Otherwise, we record your student's absence as "unexcused." Please note that if a student is absent 20 or more times in a school year, we will not pass him/her to the next grade level. We also will not allow any 8th grader with even one truancy to participate in graduation ceremonies.

If I need to take my child out of school early, what steps should I follow?

Check in with the front office to let us know you want to take out your student from school early. Once you arrive in our office, you must show us photo identification and then we will notify the classroom teacher to send your student to the office. We will not dismiss students to walk alone to either go home or to appointments. You must be present to check out your child.

Does Arizona Desert Elementary school provide breakfast and lunch on campus?

Yes. We offer breakfast for free every morning. We serve lunch to students who wish to buy from the cafeteria. We assign all students an account number and use a computerized payment system for lunch. Parents need to prepay the students' accounts with money so that kids can get lunch each day. The cost of the meal is debited from the original amount you as the parent placed into your student's account. If your student reaches a negative balance, please add more money to the lunch account. We won't turn away a hungry student though. We will feed a basic meal to students whose accounts reach $0 by accident.

Does Arizona Desert Elementary School have a dress code?

We care about what our students wear – appearance is part of inspiring our kids to be engaged, energized, and have fun at school. Based upon careful and extensive research and community input, we believe the dress code benefits our students for the following reasons:

  • To enhance a climate for learning.
  • To ensure campus safety and security.
  • To instill school unity and pride.
  • To eliminate label competition.
  • To promote affordable dress.
  • To uphold modesty standards.

Required uniform for boys:

Solid white or solid hunter green top with a collar and sleeves (short or long).
No visible logos on the shirt. This may be either a polo type shirt or a dress shirt. Navy blue pants or shorts, without visable logos. No denim or corduroy allowed for either top or bottom.

My child needs to take medication daily. How will you make sure he/she will receive it?

Please label all prescription medications and keep them in the school health office. Only our school nurse will hand out the medicine to a student. Prescription medicines must be prescribed by a doctor and have documentation telling how much and how often the medicine must be taken. Please be sure to contact the health office ahead of time if you want your child taking over-the-counter medicines too.
